After a fresh install of NetBSD 1.6/i386 I tried to configure XFree86 4.2.0. I used the 'xf86cfg' tool, which created a configuration file in '/root/XF86Config.new'. I tested it by running 'X -xf86config XF86Config.new' which resulted in a 'Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting'. So I had a look at the config file. xf86cfg got everything fine.
So I spent quite some time to figure out what the problem was - without any success, until I started using other drivers. Instead of the 'nv' driver (which should work with the Riva 128 on my ASUS V3000 board) I chose the 'vesa' driver, which works fine for me. You can have alook at my current XF86Config file.
Still I'm wondering why it won't work with the nv driver. I dying to hear comments, suggestions or other enlightening words; send them to <email@example.com>. :-)
